Villena is another neighboring town to Yecla. It is world famous for a number of things including the production of very high quality shoes. It too, has a growing expat community. With the addition of one or too British bars opened up recently in the town, you can always go and have a chat over a cold pint with Steve in the Plough opposite the Mercadona.
More recently, the go-karting track opened. This is a professionally designed and run karting venue. You'll find an excellent restaurant facility with great service. Try your hand at riding mini-motos, or let the kids enjoy themselves on the kiddies karts. You'll find the curcuit on the left hand side of the road as you leave Villena towards Yecla. |
Villena is a city located at the north of the Alicante province, Spain . It has an area of 345.6 km 2 and, according to the 2002 census, a total population of 32,892 inhabitants. The river Vinalopó flows through the municipal term of Villena. The economy of the city is based on footwear (like in the neighboring cities of Elda, Yecla and Novelda ), pottery , furniture and wines .
Villena was settled by Iberians . After the Moor invasion of the Iberian Peninsula , the king James II of Aragon re conquered the city in 1304 , establishing a marques sade in this area.
In Villena, the archaeological museum houses an important collection of valuable Iberian treasure, comprising of 60 gold and silver pieces as well as several prehistoric artifacts. Visits to the museum however are by appointment only. Tel 96 580 11 50. More info to follow |
