Caudete

Caudete is a typically Spanish town situated to the most south-easterly point of the Iberian Peninsula, In the province of Albacete. Which is a 45 minute drive away from the coast.

Caudete has a surface area of around approximately 134,125 Kms.² and is enveloped by the Sierra de Oliva which is also known as Santa Bárbara mountain range to one side and the Alácera to the other.
The main Alicante - Madrid Motorway the A31, is very close to Caudete, it is within 5 Kms of the town.
The town has excellent transport links and has always been in an important location, strategically as it sits right where the route from the Albacete to the coast crosses the route from Murcia to Valencia.
A piece of Caudete history

Due to the geographic location of Caudete, the town has always been considered a strategically important point of passage between a whole host of different towns. In its history, the town was visited and inhabited by Carthaginians, Phoenicians, Arabs and Romans. The town of Cudete had its first contact with the British during the civil war  when 125 volunteers from Great Britain were garrisoned here.

These days Caudete is a modern, enterprising and dynamic town. Caudete has around 10,000 inhabitants and their infrastructures and facilities are of very high standards.
A few of the many things that Caudete has to offer are Pavilions, sports facilities, 2 swimming pools, A House of Culture, Library, Academy of Music, Exhibition hall, Museum of Watercolour etc.

Caudete also has a very large industrial glass fabrication plant making many of Spain's beer bottles, along with a large glass recycling centre.


Caudete Fiestas

Caudete is well known for its numerous traditional fiestas, The Moor's and Christians (Moros y Cristianos) fiesta is considered to be the most important to the town, and is held annually from 6th to the 10th of September.  The procession is really quite spectacular and the many costumes worn are very intricate and extremely flamboyant.

At Christmas Caudete celebrates los Bailes del Niño ( The young ones dance). You can experience this in the main square in town among other public places and consist of a whole mixture of dances, with some being very traditional to the town.

The Passover and the resurrection of Christ, or a we know it Easter, takes place in the mountains, this consists of a huge get together of families friends etc. Basically it is like a huge feast and over 4,000 people are known to attend this fiesta ever year.
